What does NLP stand for? (Neuro Linguistic Programming)
NLP simply means;
- Neuro – your mindset and neuro pathways, internal communication.
- Linguistic – Language, how you communicate non-verbally in which our brains process through, pictures, sounds, feelings, tastes, smells, words as in how you speak to yourself inside your mind, all put together to represent and give meaning.
- How we communicate with ourselves and others from learnt behavior’s, patterns, beliefs, values, memories, strategies, attitude etc. that are running in the background in our UNCONSCIOUS MIND (e.g. things that run in the background automatically like breathing).
NLP works with the unconscious part of the mind to make changes at a core level compared to counselling which is conscious and generally works on a surface level. NLP is also solution based which means working towards an outcome and building on what you already have.
As you can see from the diagram above, NLP teaches that an external event (something that happens outside of you) is processed by our senses and include;
- Sight
- Sound
- Touch
- Taste
- Smell
- and I’ve added EMF (electro magnetic field, or aura as some may resonate with) at around 2 million bits.
This is then broken down into around 5-9bits as the mind filters by deleting, generalising and distorting the in coming event information.
The unconscious mind runs and stores our;
- Language
- Beliefs
- Values
- Attitudes
- Programming (what we learn consistently and repeatedly known as conditioning)
- Memories
- Time
- Space
- Matter
- Which creates our internal representation of what we think.
- Our state, meaning emotional state of how we feel.
- Leads to our physiology, how we present ourselves physically.
- The out come is our behaviour, meaning what we do as in actions.
It’s fascinating how the mind and body connections all link together! We are pretty amazing beings when you stop to take a moment and realise.
